Although a vast and hugely populated city, Mexico City is well worth a visit. The presidential palace sits in one of the world’s largest public squares called Zocalo (Constitution square), alongside Aztec ruins and the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral. The Cathedral, constructed in the Spanish Baroque style, has two 64 metre high towers which hold 18 bells. It is thought to be one of the largest Ecclesiastical buildings in the Western Hemisphere and certainly is impressive.

Built by the ancient Mayan civilisation, the remains of Chichen Itza, with their jungle backdrop, are an impressive and historically important site. The site is thought to have become prominent around 600 AD but went into decline following a revolt and a civil war in 1221. Along with wonderful archaeological treasures, recent human remains that have been analysed seem to suggest that human sacrifice was prevalent amongst the Mayan’s. A visit to this and other sites of historical interest can add to your Mexico holidays.
